Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who are you?
I am a Christian Hedonist. My highest joy involves glorifying the holy God revealed in the Holy Bible. Whatever I do, my aim involves bringing God the highest honor and praise.

2. Why are you in Colombia?
I am in Colombia to serve the Church. I introduce students to God as revealed in Scripture and help them grow up in their relationship with Him.

3, What do you believe?
One summary of my beliefs you can find in the Westminster Confession of Faith. Apart from the Bible, this document serves as a doctrinal standard for my faith and behavior.

4. What is basic information about Colombia?
Colombia was one of the three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 (the others are Ecuador and Venezuela). A four-decade long conflict between government forces and anti-government insurgent groups, principally the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) heavily funded by the drug trade, escalated during the 1990s. The insurgents lack the military or popular support necessary to overthrow the government and violence has been decreasing since about 2002, but insurgents continue attacks against civilians and large areas of the countryside are under guerrilla influence or are contested by security forces. More than 31,000 former paramilitaries had demobilized by the end of 2006 and the United Self Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) as a formal organization had ceased to function. In the wake of the paramilitary demobilization, emerging criminal groups arose, whose members include some former paramilitaries. The Colombian Government has stepped up efforts to reassert government control throughout the country, and now has a presence in every one of its administrative departments. However, neighboring countries worry about the violence spilling over their borders. Source: CIA Factbook.

5. Where is Colombia? What are some geographical features of this nation?
The combined land area of Colombia equals California plus Texas. Physical aspects of the nation are quite diverse. Three Andean mountain ranges dominate the western half of Colombia. Many peaks exceed heights found on the US mainland. Between these ranges one finds two medium-sized rivers that flow north and empty into the Caribbean.
Two lowlands divide the eastern half of the nation. Large rolling savannah dominates the northeast; the Amazon rain forest with myriads of meandering rivers dominates the southeast.
